Archive Drive By # 1: Senor-Calexico (12/02/06) The Rialto Theatre-Tucson, AZ

Welcome to my first post and first pick from the rich resource of live music that is The Live Music Archive. I have decided to pick a beautiful rendition of Bob Dylan’s Senor by the Arizona based band Calexico.

This was recorded on December 2nd, 2006 at the Rialto Theatre in Tuscon, Arizona and was part of a benefit to support KXCI Community Radio.

Calexico has recorded and released this song commercially on the soundtrack to the new Dylan movie I’m Not There. That version does differ in that it features Willie Nelson on lead vocals and guitar. It is definitely worth checking out that version as well, but it is also cool to hear Calexico doing this by themselves.

Actually they are not really by themselves. That wild vocal you will hear near the end of the tune is by Salvador Duran.

This is a beautiful sounding Matrix recording by Calexico archivist Jim Blackwood.
